INSS Nou Barris

Gastón Clerc, José Luis Aramberri
Barcelona - 2009

The building is one of the oldest constructions in the Nou Barris neighborhood of Barcelona and currently is home to the headquarters of the district. The original construction was planned by Dr. Emili Pi i Molist and by the architect Josep Oriol Bernadet (1811-1860) and is one of the most brilliant examples of hospital architecture from that time.

Designed between 1855 and 1860, its construction started in 1886 and finished only in 1915. The priority of the interior design project was respecting the  architectural patrimony of this emblematic building.

Solutions that meet expectations
The interior design project consisted mainly in the side wall linings that are up to 5m high. It was made with horizontal panel stripes in a varnished birch wood finishing. The same finishing was applied to other parts of the building as well as exterior openings or ceilings.
Perimeter of the area
The air conditioning hides behind small wardrobes with the same finishing that go through the entire perimeter of the interior of the building, allowing the project to be uniform as the client had required. The inferior plinth of the wardrobes, marked in black, defines de separation between the floor and the wall paneling.
Divide without hiding
The interior divisions were made with a simple P600 decorated glass partition wall, increasing the privacy of the rooms all while keeping the visual continuity of the ceilings and the natural lighting coming in the different spaces.
