At Arlex, we love working on special projects that challenge us and allow us to acquire new knowledge. Recently, we collaborated with interior designer Cesc Solá on the development of 113 bunk beds for AMISTAT HOSTELS in Barcelona, creating a space where guests can feel at home while exploring and experiencing the city.
The client presented us with the project with a clear vision for its image, materials and requirements. From the outset, we knew durability would be key, so we chose GELFOR, a highly resistant vinyl flooring material, for a new and innovative use as cladding for the bunk beds. Known for its durability as a flooring solution, this material has provided the pieces with excellent resistance, ensuring their longevity and quality.
We designed both single and double bunk beds with a metal structure and GELFOR-clad panels that harmonise with the flooring in the rooms. Equipped with individual coloured LED lighting, power sockets, privacy curtains, private TVs and lockers, these Smart Bunk Beds offer a perfect combination of comfort and functionality.
Throughout the process, we developed several prototypes and carried out usability tests, ensuring that every detail, from the electrical connections to the screens and lights in the lockers, met the highest standards. This project has not only been an exciting challenge, but has also expanded our know-how for future projects.
